Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

GEMS Modern Academy is proud to deliver The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, one of the fastest growing youth achievement programmes in the world. The award offers 14 to 24 year old youngsters opportunities to develop skills that help them to be #worldready.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award (commonly abbreviated DofE) is a youth awards programme founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, that has since expanded to 144 nations. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a non-formal education and learning framework operating in more than 144 countries and territories around the world, through which young people’s achievements outside of academia are recognised and celebrated.

The Award is voluntary, individual, non-competitive, enjoyable, balanced and achievable. There are three levels to the Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Young people design their own Award programme, set goals and record their progress. They choose a Service, Physical Recreation, Skill activities, go on an Adventurous Journey and, to achieve a Gold Award, take part in a residential project. 

The philosophy of the award intertwines with the IB CAS and ICSE/ISC SUPW philosophy. Hence, activities performed in the award can be recorded for CAS and SUPW.
